Sound Bowls & Soul Work: Meet Intelezi of Resonance
Growing up in the Bronx on Kingsbridge and Sedgwick taught Iyanga Intelezi the meaning of community in its truest form. “Despite its challenges, the connectedness was a part of the fabric of my experience,” she reflects. Children played outside without distraction, discovering the pure potential to create. There were cookouts, shared holidays, and the quiet assurance that a warm plate was always waiting just across the street.
That sense of belonging extended beyond the Bronx to the U.S. Virgin Islands, where family was not just present but intertwined. “When all my aunts moved into one apartment, I was taught that family sticks together.” For her, these experiences are the blueprint for her work today. Even in challenge, there is always a mustard seed. Community, connection, and ancestry are the soil where her healing practice grows.
The path to becoming a healer did not come overnight. “Becoming is a process. Each day I am receiving confirmations that tell me not to turn back,” she explains. Her work began with herself. “Sound healing because all of my energy centers were blocked. Womb healing because a fibroid almost killed me. Each modality awakened me to a deep knowing. I come from a line of healers.” The presence of her ancestors guided her to step forward as an ambassador and vessel for medicine that has existed across generations.
Science and spirit meet seamlessly in her approach. With an MSW in Community Organizing, Planning, and Development, she understands how trauma, community, and environment shape a person. “In my practice, I integrate the knowing that ‘person in environment’ is both about the physical place and the spirit.” Every consultation is a careful, holistic integration of emotional, physical, and spiritual needs, creating space where clients feel truly seen.
The journey has not been without struggle. “Being entrusted with gifts can feel isolating,” she admits. Healing others can feel larger than life. Yet a deep sense of purpose keeps her grounded. “The gift of my bloodline needs a place to live in the world.” She remains committed because she knows that many are still searching for the relief, guidance, and restoration she can offer.
Ancestry guides her work at every turn. “My gifts are the gifts of my bloodline, and I am just a vessel for them to work through,” she says. Even the difficult experiences of her life have been lessons, pushing her toward depth and clarity. “I hold no expectations for another’s healing as I have learned it is a devoted choice.” Healing is not something to impose. It is an offering.
Sound baths with Iyanga Intelezi are transformative, intimate, and unique. “Every sound holds a frequency. We use sound bowls to awaken and balance energy in the body. It is like knocking on the door of these energy centers, and when the door opens, it will reveal.” Some feel movement in their bodies, some drift into deep and needed rest. The invitation is simple. Sit, listen, and receive.
Daily rituals help her remain aligned. “Lots of prayer, stillness, gratitude, devotions, and trust. I used to ask myself how I am feeling every day. That practice has been transformative.” Music and movement, especially soca, are woven into her practice. “Music and movement are frequency. I just use music as a tool to heal, awaken, and reveal.” They bring energy, joy, and a sense of living in rhythm with her ancestors.
Her ultimate hope is simple and profound. “If one person leaves feeling rested, curious, or restored, that is a job well done. My desire is to support those who seek to align to their highest self and greatest good.” There is humility in her practice, but also a quiet power. She offers space, medicine, and guidance without expectation, trusting each person to receive what they need.
A day in her life moves in waves. Quiet reflection and vibrant celebration coexist. “I am quiet by nature, but my culture is rich in the turn up, so I navigate both spaces when I feel called.” Wine, soca, and joy are not distractions from her work. They are expressions of it.
Iyanga Intelezi’s story is one of community, ancestry, and deep purpose. Every session, every sound, every moment of presence is an invitation to remember the energy and wisdom that lives in each of us. Healing is not distant or unattainable. It is immediate, accessible, and rooted in connection, just as it has been for generations.
