Jamil “ICON” was born and raised in Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love. Coming out to his family at 14, he remembers his mother telling him that being gay was just one part of who he is and that he didn’t need to broadcast it to the world. That wisdom shaped a lifetime of authenticity.

Jamil discovered Ballroom culture at a young age, and it became more than a community, it became family. It was in the Ballroom that he cultivated confidence, resilience, and a sense of self that would carry him through life’s challenges. His journey through the culture refined his art, strengthened his voice, and fueled his commitment to reaching his highest potential.
